Big Chess Event 2
At the Surbiton Brasserie (opposite Surbiton Station) 6 Victoria Road, Surbiton, KT6 4JU (Surbiton Station is on the direct line from Waterloo) On Thursday, 13th April, 2017: 6:45pm – 9 pm * Tournament for players below ECF 150 * Beginners/friendly games/teaching sessions * Only £1 entry fee! * All entry fees (plus optional donations) go to local Big Issue seller * A new event for people who like chess in a warm, friendly, relaxed environment with excellent refreshments. Schedule: 6:45 arrival Round 1 - 7:00 – 7:30 Round 2 – 7:30-8:00 Round 3 – 8:00 – 8:30 Round 4 - 8:30-9:00 Clocks will be used only on upper boards, 12 minutes each for all the moves; other games by adjudication, +3 points for a win.

The story is still unfolding and Mike has set up a website www.endtaxsploitation.co.uk where you can follow the arguments and even contribute yourself if you request a login code. We must keep up the pressure to get chess (a mental activity) treated fairly alongside physical sports.

Sarah Hegarty will be the new head of the Delancey UK Schools Chess Challenge, after the future of the worlds largest chess tournament was put in doubt following an onslaught by Her Majestys Revenue and Customs ... READ MORE (see attached)

All Surrey Girls and Boys Championships
Entries are invited for the All Surrey Girls and Boys Championships. (see link above for entry form) Besides the individual sections there are also prizes for the top three schools in each competition.

Make the Chess Challenge VAT exempt
We still urge you to sign the online petition asking the government to exempt Chess from the necessity to charge and collect VAT. It should be listed alongside the other 100 sports and activities which are currently enjoying this privilege.
